A companion to the Plan of Union. Under Book of Discipline ¶1507, when two annual conferences merge, each must elect a distributing committee of three members and three alternates to act jointly with the other conference's committee. North Georgia is asked to affirm the creation of this Joint Distributing Committee with South Georgia and to approve its nominees, who will allocate pension responsibility and equitably distribute permanent funds, pension assets, and other property and liabilities between the two conferences.

The Common Table (Connectional Table)

Book of Discipline ¶1507

For Conference Action — presented by the Common Table.

The North Georgia Conference is asked to affirm the creation of a Joint Distributing Committee, together with the South Georgia Annual Conference, to operate consistent with Book of Discipline ¶1507, and to approve its three members and three alternates.

Under ¶1507, the joint distributing committee thus formed has power and authority to:

  • (a) allocate the pension responsibility involved;
  • (b) distribute equitably the permanent funds and all other pension assets of the conferences affected, taking the pension responsibility into consideration; and
  • (c) to the extent not otherwise provided for, apportion or distribute equitably any other assets, property, liabilities, and obligations.

The committee is also authorized to act on plans and recommendations from the One Georgia Task Force and the joint working teams (health benefits, incorporation, legal structure) pending creation of the new conference, and is dissolved upon completion of its work.

(The South Georgia resolution names its representatives: Board of Pension — John Ray; CF&A — Kathy Israel McLeod; Trustees — Jimmy Asbell; alternates Allison Berg, Jeff Cook, Precious Hawkins. North Georgia's nominees are presented at the session.)
